Common Rabbit Care Mistakes

Some bunny owners might think they are doing what's good for their bunnies, but there are things they're unaware of that can harm bunnies. Caring for rabbits is not as simple as caring for other pet animals if you don't educate yourself about raising indoor rabbits.

It is advised to research rabbit care to give your bunny the best life it can have with you. To keep your rabbit from harm, here are common rabbit mistakes you should know so you can avoid them.

7 Common Rabbit Care Mistakes

Owners should be aware of these things.

1. Putting Rabbits in Cages

Here in HoppScotch.bun, we promote free-roaming rabbits because we believe they are healthier and happier if they can play and hop freely around the house. Preparing them to free-roam takes effort and planning but it is all worth it if you see your rabbits enjoy playing and bonding with you.

2. One Kind of Toy

This means you should provide a variety of toys. There are toys that your bunny doesn't like and you can tell by seeing the toys being ignored. If that happens, try or purchase something new until your bunny is satisfied with the toys. A lack of toys and stimulation can make rabbits lonely.

3. Lack of Grooming

Rabbits can indeed groom themselves but don't leave the routine to them alone. You must also groom them to ensure shedding coats are adequately removed. This way, it can reduce the hair your rabbit ingested by licking the fur.

4. Disregard Health Check

It's good to have a vet that can check your bunny, but you can also do a health check at home by checking the nails, bottoms, eyes, feet, and nose. Not every day you visit a clinic, so do it at home regularly.

5. Too Many Pellets

An unbalanced diet, like too much pellet and a little hay, is incorrect. Rabbits can get obese if given too many pellets.

6. Unlimited Vegetables and Fruits

These plants are supplements for your rabbit's diet but not primary. Giving them lots of greens, vegetables, or fruits can upset their stomachs.

7. Not Regularly Cleaning

Some bunny parents are too tired to clean their homes. If cleaning is disregarded every day, this can cause sickness to your bunny. Seeing your pet playing doesn't mean it is doing fine inside its body. Clean your home and dust your couch and other furniture.
